Best Pool Covers Australia — Reviews & Comparisons
Trusted Reviews & Real Advice
Finding the best pool covers Australia has to offer isn't about the cheapest price, but the best long-term value. Reading pool cover reviews is a smart step before buying — it's crucial, however, to consider the quality of the product being reviewed, not just the star rating.
We are proud of our reputation and encourage you to see what thousands of satisfied Australian customers have to say. Check out our genuine customer reviews to learn more.
How to Judge a Pool Cover
The most important factor in any review is whether the product is a quality, Australian-made cover or a cheap, semi-disposable import. A five-star review for a cover that fails in 18 months isn't a true measure of value.
Our covers are built with superior materials designed to last years longer — see exactly what to look for in Australian-made vs imported covers below.
A reliable pro-rata warranty and expert local support are what truly stand behind the best products and provide genuine peace of mind for your investment.

What is the best pool cover to buy?
It depends on the job you need done. If the goal is a warmer pool and lower water bills, a solar bubble cover is the best buy — custom-made if your pool isn't a standard rectangle. If the goal is keeping leaves out over winter, a PoolTex tie-down cover does what no floating cover can. For an above-ground pool, a fitted above-ground cover is the right tool. Whichever type you choose, the quality of the material matters more than the brand on the label — that's what the sections below are about.
Australian-Made vs Imported Pool Covers
Most imported covers come from China and are commonly sold through eBay, Temu and Catch. They can look identical to a quality cover on day one — the difference is in the material formula:
- High-quality LDPE resin with high impact strength and strong resistance to moisture and pool chemicals.
- Robust antioxidants that resist early degradation from chlorine, magnesium and salt-chlorinated water.
- High-standard UV stabilisers — our locally produced covers carry around double the UV resistance of typical imports.
- Rigorous quality control — our covers come from a major Australian manufacturer operating since 1976.
The result: even a lower-micron Australian-made cover will generally outlast an inferior 500-micron import. A bargain cover that's replaced every couple of years isn't a bargain.
Micron Grades Explained (400–610)
The micron grade is the cover's thickness — the higher the number, the more material in every square metre. More material means more years of resistance to pool chemicals, which is why our higher micron grades carry substantially longer warranties. It also helps a little with heating performance. Our covers concentrate material in the bottom (bubble) layer, where oxidising chemicals like chlorine attack first.
One caveat when comparing brands: material quality matters more than the number. Two covers with the same micron grade from different suppliers can last for very different periods — grade is only comparable within the same manufacturing standard.
Which is better — mesh or solid?
They do different jobs. A solid solar (bubble) cover floats on the water, heats the pool and stops about 97–98% of evaporation — it's the everyday, swim-season cover. A mesh leaf cover (like our PoolTex tie-down range) is anchored above the pool and exists to keep leaves and debris out, especially over winter. Many pool owners run a solar cover through the swim season and a tie-down cover through autumn and winter.
Is a blue or clear pool cover better?
Both work — they just emphasise different things. Our range includes Light Blue, Mid Blue, Blue Titanium and Clarity Clear grades. Clear material lets the most sunlight through to the water for heating; blue and titanium grades emphasise pigment durability and a cooler look. In practice the micron grade and material quality make far more difference to long-term value than the colour.
Do I Need a Pool Cover Roller?
Unless you have a small plunge pool (around 4m × 2m), yes. A cover only delivers its benefits if it's actually on the pool — and without a roller, removing and replacing a large cover is a two-person wrestling match. With one, it's a one-minute job.
Nearly all Australian covers connect to rollers with either white cords and eyelets or adjustable black straps — we include your choice free with every cover, and new rollers come with straps already fitted. Compare pool cover rollers (from $399).
Pool Cover Warranties: What to Look For
A reliable warranty is the clearest signal of cover quality — manufacturers only back products they expect to last. Look for:
- A genuine local manufacturer behind the warranty — ours has operated in Australia since 1976, and claims are processed simply, via email.
- Pro-rata terms — the warranty's value is apportioned across the cover's life, so you're covered in proportion to the years remaining.
- Warranty length matched to micron grade — higher grades carry substantially longer warranties, up to 10 years pro-rata.
Warranties on imported covers are often difficult or impossible to claim — with no local manufacturer to contact, a warranty card means little.
