Why Abgal — An Exact Original Replacement

Abgal is Australia's largest pool-liner manufacturer, and Pool Express is its largest retailer. Over the years Abgal has supplied the original liners for most Australian pool brands — including Sterns, Classic, Zodiac, Driclad and Pool World.

So a replacement liner from Pool Express is an exact match for your pool's original — not an after-market liner from a different maker — backed by Abgal's reputation for consistent, reliable manufacturing. We've supplied covers, rollers and liners for 21 years.

How Much Does a Pool Liner Replacement Cost?

The cost depends almost entirely on your pool’s size and shape. Most above-ground replacement liners cost $500–$1,400, with around $730–$800 being typical — smaller round and oval pools at the lower end, large 8–9 m ovals at the top.

Three things move the price: size (bigger pools need more material), common vs rare size (standard sizes like 6.1 × 3.6 m are made in volume and cost least), and whether your pool has a flat floor or a deep end.

Can You Replace a Pool Liner Yourself?

For above-ground pools, yes — and most owners do. Around 80% of Australians replace their own liner, usually with no prior experience, and the job can normally be finished in a single day.

Installers are hard to find — for much of the year they’re building new pools — and a labour-only quote commonly runs $4,000–$6,000. Fitting it yourself avoids that bill entirely.

How Long Do Liners Last and When to Replace?

A vinyl liner lasts anywhere from about 5 years for a neglected pool to 15 years or more for a well-kept one. Over time the vinyl becomes brittle and more prone to leaks.

The clearest sign it’s due is a drop in water level beyond what evaporation explains — sometimes a damp patch beside the pool. A patch kit can fix one small leak, but once a liner is 10+ years old or has leaked more than once, replacement is the sensible choice.
