Winter Pool Cover
Protect Your Pool All Winter Long
A winter pool cover is the perfect solution for the off-season, providing total protection from leaves, debris, and dust. It stretches tightly over your pool and fastens to secure anchors.
This keeps your pool water clean and safe for months, saving you from a massive clean-up job in the spring. Get an instant quote for a custom-made winter cover on our specialist page.
The Smart Off-Season Solution
Our tie-down mesh covers allow rainwater to pass through but block all debris, preventing your pool from turning into a swamp. They are incredibly durable and built to last many winters.
This makes them the ideal partner to a solar blanket. Most clients use their winter cover for long-term protection, then switch to a solar blanket to heat the pool for the swimming season.
Like all our products, these are made from premium materials to provide years of reliable performance. Investing in a quality winter cover is a smart choice for any pool owner.

Winter Pool Cover — Frequently Asked Questions
When should I install a winter pool cover?
Most pool owners switch to a winter cover at the end of the swimming season — typically late autumn (April–May for southern states, May–June for QLD/WA). The goal is to close the pool while it’s still clean and chemically balanced, then leave it sealed until you reopen in spring.
A leaf-fall cover prevents organic matter from rotting in the water through winter, which saves a major chemical reset when you reopen.
How is a winter pool cover different from a leaf cover?
A “winter cover” and a “leaf cover” are usually the same product in the Australian market — a tie-down mesh cover that anchors to the surrounds and keeps debris out while letting rainwater pass through. The terminology just reflects intent: leaf-cover for autumn debris protection, winter-cover for the entire off-season closure.
Our covers serve both purposes; we’d suggest the same product for either need.
How fast is delivery for a custom winter pool cover?
We custom prepare and dispatch new pool cover orders within 2 business days. Transit then depends on your location — typically 1 business day to Brisbane/Gold Coast, 2-3 days to Sydney and Canberra, 3-4 days to Melbourne and Adelaide, and 3-5 days to Perth. You’ll receive a tracking number by email when your order leaves the factory.
Do winter pool covers retain heat as well as thermal covers?
No — winter covers are debris covers, not heat-retention covers. The mesh is permeable on purpose so rainwater drains through. For heat retention you need a separate thermal pool cover, which is a closed-cell foam product designed to insulate.
Many pool owners use both during the year: a winter cover through the off-season, then a solar or thermal cover during the swimming months for heat.

Which pool cover is right for your pool?
Most pools use more than one cover through the year — a solar blanket to warm the water and cut evaporation in season, a tie-down cover for leaves and safety off-season, and a roller to handle it all. Here’s how each option compares and who it suits.
The everyday in-season cover. A custom-made floating solar blanket warms your pool by up to 8°C, cuts evaporation by around 98%, and lowers your chemical and running costs — available from 250 to 600 micron with up to a 12-year warranty.
Best for leafy yards and the off-season. A tie-down mesh cover blocks 100% of leaves, debris and dust while rain drains straight through, and adds a real layer of pool safety. Many owners run one alongside a solar blanket across the year.
Made for above-ground pools. An easy “shower-cap” style cover in heavy-duty woven polypropylene — 25% thicker than most — with a stretch cord for a quick, secure fit. Keeps out leaves, debris and dust, lets rain through, and halves evaporation. From $100.80.
The accessory that makes a solar blanket effortless. Roll the cover on and off in seconds, single-handed — which protects it and extends its life. Recommended for anything bigger than a small plunge pool, and every roller comes with a free UV over-cover. From $399.
Prefer push-button convenience? Pair a motorised Talos electric roller with a custom-made cover for hands-free operation that rolls perfectly straight every time — easier on you and gentler on the cover.

Pool Cover Benefits
One Pool Cover - Many Benefits
A cover will offer all pool owners multiple benefits. The durability of our covers means you can enjoy these benefits for years to come.
A summary of the main benefits will include those shown below:
To enjoy those benefits you will need a good and reliable roller in order to deal with the cover on a daily basis. We offer a range of well designed and thoroughly tested roller models to suit various pool sizes and design style preferences.
- A longer and more enjoyable swimming Season
The gain in average water temperature can transform how your pool is used. You can start swimming much earlier in the swimming season (and also much later).
You will also be tempted to use your pool much more often during the regular swimming season.
- Almost total elimination of evaporation water loss
Most Australian pools suffer serious daily water loss from evaporation, especially during summer.
A good cover will almost eliminate evaporative water loss altogether (by around 98%). This not only saves cost, it saves work and stress having to constantly monitor the pool’s water level during dry periods.
- Less work with leaves - You can even use a garden blower
A pool cover can make a dramatic difference to the work of dealing with leaves. A pool cover will keep leaves “above the pool” and out of the water.
If leaves do not just later “blow away” in the next strong wind, you might just “blast these away” occasionally with a garden blower. Not even an option without a cover.
- Reduced chemical and treament expenses
You can expect a cover to eventually pay for itself from savings on other pool costs. Putting a cover on a pool is one-step away from having an indoor pool.
With care, you can certainly reduce filter running times, chlorine dosage and other chemical requirements.
How does a pool actually lose heat?
Your pool will gain significant heating from the effect of sunlight simply striking our pool cover. But further heat gain benefits result from the ability to “retain heat”.
Most pool owners do not realise how much pools can “chill” every day (and especially overnight) by heat lost from evaporation alone.
Worsening the situation – the warmer you pool gets, the greater the evaporation and heat loss. Water temperatures far lower than ideal are the natural result.
Why Quality Matters
Don't Waste Work & Money
- Wasted, Early, and Repeated Expenses
Experienced pool owners agree: Investing in a high-quality pool cover is a smart decision.
- While cheaper options may need replacement every 18-36 months, superior covers can last nearly a decade. This longevity not only saves money in the long run but also spares pool owners the frequent hassle of purchasing and installing new covers.

Cover Quality - How Other Covers Fail Early:
- Poor Quality Ingredients - Covers Damaged Quickly by UV and Pool Chemicals
- Poor Quality Ingredients - Covers Damaged by UV and Pool Chemicals
While various pool covers may appear similar, such as “blue plastic bubbles,” they can be made from substantially different ingredients. This significantly impacts the cover’s performance and durability.
Our covers utilize an optimal combination of anti-oxidants (to resist damage from pool chemicals) and UV inhibitors (for years of protection in outdoor sunlight).
- Poor Design From the Start
Each brand of pool covers has its own distinctive bubble profile, which plays a crucial role in determining its lifespan.
Our bubble design is optimized for performance and maximum durability, a level of detail often overlooked by other manufacturers.
- Rapid, Poor Quality Manufacture
To save costs, inferior covers often employ overly rapid manufacturing techniques and pay little attention to quality control. This compromise typically leads to lower cover quality and durability.
The material formulation of our covers, particularly the anti-oxidants, results in a high-quality and consistent product after the high-temperature molding and formation process.
- Australian Covers Universally Better than Imports
Based on our experience, all Australian-made pool covers are significantly more reliable than imported covers, which are primarily sourced from China and available online through forums such as eBay, Temu and Catch.
Of course, there is nothing inherently wrong with products made in China. However, when it comes to pool covers, these products are manufactured at the lowest possible expense, resulting in severely compromised quality. Such covers should be treated as “semi-disposable,” requiring frequent replacement, accompanied by substantial work and mess each time.
